Documentary

AP Language students were to watch a documentary regarding a subject that had their interest. In your post briefly describe you documentary and why you chose it. Perhaps even give some examples of things you learned. Finally, suggest what type of audience would like the film ad why. I look forward to reading your posts.

I watched the documentary "Note by Note: The Making of Steinway L1037." This piece was fascinating since I play the piano and a Steinway is one of the best. I learned that it takes one year to complete a piano from start to finish and that each piano is made by hand. The final turning process takes over a month to complete and passes through the hands of at least three tuners. The soundtrack for this documentary was quite exceptional as different pianists played the concert grands that were featured. If you are a pianist or a music lover, I would highly recommend this film. It made for a very entertaining evening.

  1. I watched the documentary "The Private Life of Plants" episode 1:Travelling.I learned that the two major transporters of plant seeds is the wind and water. Many plants that depend on the wind are described with fascinating names like aerodynamic gliders and helicopters. One thing is for sure the wind makes transportation easier for plants.I believe that any botanist, horticulturist, or even a biologist would be interested in "The Private Life of Plants".

  2. I watched the documentary "Under the great white northern lights". It was a documentary made by the band, The White Stripes. In the documentary they're followed around as they tour the world. They talk about all kinds of experiences they've had since they started as a band. The band consists of only two people Jack and Meg. They were married, but divorced, and eventually ended up making the band. In the documentary they explain that they just weren't meant to be husband and wife. They saw themselves as mainly best friends, and even brother and sister. I think that people who like The White Stripes music would be very interested in the documentary, because it shows how they really live. All the good, bad, funny, and sad.

  3. The documantary i watched was "Baby Beauty Queens." I thought this documentary was interesting because I'm interested in things like hair and make-up. This documentary is about how mothers sign up their young girls up in a beauty pageant and all the small details that go into these little girls. I was amazed by how much make-up is put on these little girls and how much pressure is put on them to win a samll competition. For some of the girls it is like a dream come true and others are forced into it by their mothers. I believe that this video will interest anybody that likes a little glamour and glitz.

  4. Interrogating Saddam

I watched an episode about an interrogation of Saddam Hussein. The FBI held him prisoner to get answers on whether or not Saddam had weapons of mass destruction in his power. Junior FBI agent Piro interrogated him until Saddam revealed that it was a lie. He lied to protect Iraq from the Iranians, their biggest threat. He said he never had weapons of mass destruction it was a ploy for protection. I think that this documentary would provide an example that, a lie for even a good reason could end up bad.

  5. I watched a documentary on "Ancient Warriors- The Spartans". This documentary described the life of a Spartan male from birth till death. How they were raised, trained, and punished as young children and adults. I learned that once a Spartan male reached the age of thirty and had completed his training, he received the right of an Equal. An Equal devoted himself to the state, the art of war, and were even aloud to live with their family if they had one. This documentary also spoke of the battle at Thermopolis, the Spartans rise to power in Greece, and their downfall. This documentary would interest those interested in Greek history, Spartan history, or those who enjoy different military strategies.

  6. I watched a document called "My Dog: An Unconditional Love Story." It's about how and why people love their dogs, and what their dogs have done for them. You learn that dogs can be more caring and trustworthy than an average person could ever be. You also learn to understand what dogs expect of you, other than just nurturing them and giving them a place to stay. This documentary would be great for any animal lover, especially dog lovers. I learned that these animals never argue or complain, they're always there waiting to give you nothing but love. They'll help you get through any problem or struggle, and never judge you. You can be the voice that they don't have, you can make the statement that they want to make. They understand you and know how to treat you depending on the situation that's happening. It might sound a bit melodramatic, but sometimes the reason I wake up every morning, is to love and care for my dogs.

  8. I watched the documentary "The Cove". It caught my interest because it has to do with dolphins. I learned that there is an annual killing of dolphins in a National Park at Taiji. Not only are there 23,000 dolphins and purpoises being killed in Japan every year, but it turns out that more than half of the meat supplied in Japan is dolphin meat and the consumers don't know this because the merchandiser changes the label on the meat so the buyers won't know what they are consuming. The film also talks about other things in detail like tips on how to try to stop it. I recommend this film not only to people who like to make changes but also to those whom are interested in what happpens in other countries besides ours.

  9. I watched the documentary "Who Really Discovered America?" The documentary was about how Columbus may not have been the first person to discover America. They gave many cases of where people may have traveled to America, even before Jesus was born. I watched it because I am very interested in history and learning new things about our past. I would recommend this documentary to people that really like history and want a greater knowledge if Columbus actually discovered a new land.

  10. I watched a boring video but I watched it. It was called Becoming Human: First Steps. It talked about how chimps are linked to humans. Its incredible how they believe chimps rapidly changed from chimps to humans, a great reason or a great possibility chimps turn out like humans were since climates in parts of the world changed dramatically from desserts to floods to grasslands to lakes to tundra, this caused the chimps to adapt and to learn causing the chimps to double there size of brains. So ya, anyone that enjoys reading and learning about history through bones and fossils of some sort will enjoy this.

  11. I watched the documentary "Secrets of the Dead: Michelangelo Revealed." This film caught my attention because of my growing love of art and how it plays such a big role in classifying any era. The documentary is about the attempt to reform throughout the Catholic Church and how artist Michelangelo secretly portrayed it within his work. Michelangelo believed faith should be based on the connection one has with God, not the relationship and role of the pope. Slightly altering works he had done for the church, Michelangelo expressed his beliefs but kept the message well-hidden for four and a half centuries. I think this film would be enjoyable to anyone interested in art and it's keyrole in the things that define humanity. It really showed the inside of why Michelangelo created what he did.

  12. I watched 'The Night of Long Knives', a documentary about what led up to and how Adolf Hitler had a series of political assassinations carried out by the Schutzstaffel (SS) and the Gestapo that erased those who he felt were in his way of gaining higher power. Most of the people he has killed were members of the Sturmabteilung (SA), also known as the Brownshirts, who were a parliamentary organization of the Nazi party.

I wasn't particularly interested in it, I only watched it because my dad had it saved on the DVR. I would recommend only if you were very interested in history surrounding Hitler and his rise to power.

  13. The documentary I watched was Babies. It mainly focused on four babies in different parts of the world. Ponijao was a baby from Namibia, Africa. His environment and situations were very different from the rest. He was very independent with his learning, hygiene and caring. Bayar was a baby from Mongolia. He grows up in a farm with goats and sheep. Mari and Hattie are from Tokyo and the USA. There isn't much difference between them. This documentary is a fun and endearing film that any family can watch together.

  14. I watched "Caso Cerrado: El Lado Oculto" (Caso Closed: The Dark Side), the documentary was about a case of a teenage girl who went missing and then turned up dead in the country under an old sofa three weeks later. She had been killed her two closest friends, one was a life-long friend the other was her friend's boyfriend who she had a crush on. These two people were part of a gothic clique and the victim tried hard to fit in with these people but only to get killed out of jealousy and because they felt she was not worthy of being part of their group. The guy shoots her but fails to kill her, the friend takes the gun and shoots her to "ease" her suffering. She goes to jail for 45 years, he goes to jail for 15 years.

I chose this because I'm very interested in crimes, mysteries, the paranormal, and all things ominous. It's actually part of series on Discovery, I would recommend anyone watch if they have an interest in crime mysteries.

  15. I watched a documentary called "Absolute Zero" which was about people's concepts of coldness over time, how scientists developed their understanding of the nature of cold through numerous efforts of trying to bring the temperature to an absolute zero, and how they had been able to control temperature through scientific experiments. I have learned that the refrigerator itself had evolved from a box that needed ice to be loaded everyday by a delivery to an electrical refrigerator that uses the power of electricity to run a compressor. The compressor compresses a type of gas into liquid form with high pressure and high temperature. That liquid will be cooled off in the back of the fridge, and then the pressure will be released inside which the temperature of the liquid will drop when it becomes gas again. The gas will absorb the heat inside the fridge which will keep the water freezes and the food cool.

I choose this video because I was interested in the title of this video, Absolute Zero, even though I didn't know what it was going to be about. And as I keep on watching the video, I have got so interested in it.

  16. I watched the documentary "the world at war", which is about raw footage of world war 2. It explains all the events leading up to the war, as well as actual fighting from all the fronts. There are also many interviews about those people who were there during that time. This series completely covers all the aspects of world war 2 and I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants to know more about the war.

The reason I watched this documentary was because I wanted to get an in depth look on what happened during the war. This in my opinion is the best war documentary ever made.

  17. I watched a documentary called "The Sinking of St Lusitania". It was about why the ship sank and how were the reactions of people on the boat would have been. The documentary was very descriptive on the emotions of everyone on the ship would have been. As in thier violence, mothers and thier children, and the Captain and the crew.

The reason I watched this documentary is because this event in history interested me and to know that drowning is such a harsh way to die.

  18. I've watched "The Future of Food". It give an in-depth investigation into the disturbing truth behind the unlabeled, patented, genetically engineered foods that have quietly filled U.S. grocery store shelves for the past decade. From the prairies of Saskatchewan, Canada to the fields of Oaxaca, Mexico, this film gives a voice to farmers whose lives and livelihoods have been negatively impacted by this new technology. The health implications, government policies and push towards globalization are all part of the reason why many people are alarmed about the introduction of genetically altered crops into our food supply. I would recommend this to anyone who's interested in science or geography. I think Mrs. Smith, my chemistry teacher, would enjoy the kind of film.

Yesterday while reading the morning news, I ran into an article on Twitter about how our writing reveals our personalities. I thought it was cool, so I wrote a post about it and then asked you what you could discern about me from my writing. I was quite impressed how accurately my writing reveals my personality
